I've just finished uploading a bunch of scrap images (to be moved later) from my Desolation Wilderness trip.  Thought I'd share some more scenes from the area.

Thanks for all the fav's and collecting of these images.  I hope you've enjoyed the "tour" of the wilderness. :)

These were such a treat! I can't believe this is practically in my back yard and I never knew it was there!

You mentioned hiking--were you packing and hiking, or are there campgrounds you're returning to? And what are the trails like? Well-established or make-your-own?

I ask because the name makes it sound, well, wild and more designed for the wilderness expert (and not the kind of adventure for a kid in a wheelchair).

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed them.

This was a backpacking trip (40 lb pack) for 3 nights. The trails are pretty easy to follow most of the time, but depending on the time of year (even now), they can disappear across snow fields very easily not to mention sections of solid granite where the best you'll find is where people have laid out some rocks on the sides of the trail to mark it. Overall, the trail can be pretty rugged. And when a trail crosses a stream or river, there are no bridges so it's up to you to figure out how to get across. Wading may be necessary. In RockBound Valley, we had to wade across the Rubicon River 4 times (all while being attacked by vicious mosquitoes).

You can see quite a lot of this wilderness though with just a day hike (and there are a few campgrounds with trailheads into the wilderness). Permits are required for entry but for a day hike, it's free and you can fill one out right at the trailhead on your way in.

I wouldn't say you need to be a wilderness expert to visit at all but this is the Sierras and all the usual potential dangers apply.
