So I have a new camera to start off my new year.  I've had so little time to get out and shoot that this seemed a poor time to upgrade.  However, having a new toy helps prioritize some time even if the times and locations are far from ideal.  I'm resuming my occasional lunch time shoots and since I'm working in a new location, I have some new places to explore and get to know.  Naturally, lunch time lighting is about the worst for nature photography but that just forces me to look for alternate subjects as well as scouting locations to shoot on a weekend when I can choose the time of day for best lighting.

My new camera is the Canon EOS 5D Mark II.  So far it's proving to be a significant upgrade from my 20D.  The images need less processing from raw so I'm having to dial back some of my automated starting points I had defined previously.  The shadow areas are considerably cleaner and have a finer tonal range.
So now I'm out shooting a lot of junk to get to know the camera while keeping on the lookout for those gems.  I'll share with you one today that I think falls somewhere in between.

Thanks to all of you for the many fav's and comments!  Here you are with the first of what I hope will be many more images from my new cam.

So far I'm very impressed by the increase in quality. Low light areas are particularly impressive. The noise levels remain really low even for very dark areas where with my 20D, I would have very noticeable banding along with overall high noise.
